Oldfield Estate Rosé: Discover EFESTĒ’s Premium Rosé

EFESTÉ’s Oldfield Estate Rosé is a testament to our dedication to quality and tradition. Inspired by the great rosés of Provence, this wine showcases our innovation and the unique characteristics of our vineyards in Washington.

The Inspiration

Inspired by the great rosés of Provence, EFESTÉ’s Oldfield Estate Rosé showcases our innovation and the unique characteristics of our vineyards in Washington. This wine is dedicated to a family friend, Dick Babbit, who would often wash away the summer heat with a glass of what he fondly called “The Pink Stuff.” Originally produced using the saignée method, we have since transitioned to growing grapes specifically for rosé in our Oldfield Estate Vineyard, creating a field blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache picked together to retain acidity and ensure food friendliness.

The Vineyard

Set high on the slope in Grandview, Washington; the Oldfield Estate Vineyard is the heart of EFESTÉ. This vineyard is specially planted with Rhone varietals, including Mourvèdre and Grenache, which are grown specifically for rosé. At 1,400 feet, this high-elevation vineyard is situated in the Yakima Valley AVA. The soils are above the Missoula Flood Plain, making them 100% indigenous and ancient. The vineyard’s rocky terrain and warm, even climate produce grapes that are both elegant and powerful, with a soft, feminine fruit profile balanced by gravely mineral tones. This unique terroir contributes to the wine’s complexity and balance, making it perfect for rosé production. Learn more about our vineyards!

Sustainable Practices and Native Fermentation

EFESTÉ is committed to sustainable winemaking practices and native fermentation, aligning with our philosophy of minimal intervention and environmental responsibility. Our Estate Vineyards in the Red Mountain and Yakima Valley AVAs adhere to rigorous sustainability practices, avoiding harsh chemicals to cultivate high-quality grapes. This approach ensures that the wines are not only top-quality but also environmentally responsible. We utilize native yeast for fermentation, which means we rely on the natural yeasts present in the grapes and the winery environment. This method contributes to the unique character and complexity of our wines. Our minimalist winemaking techniques further ensure that the wines contain only the essential elements, enhancing purity and flavor.

The Winemaking Process

First released in 2014, Oldfield Estate Rosé is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The grapes are picked early to preserve acidity, then delivered cold straight to the press and left on the skins for two hours, producing its signature wild salmon pink hue. Fermentation occurs natively in a mix of concrete, stainless steel, and neutral French oak, followed by four months of aging on the lees. This process maintains the wine’s crisp, fresh character, allowing it to develop complexity and minerality.

Tasting Notes

2022 EFESTÉ ‘Oldfield Estate’ Rosé – “A blend of 65% Grenache with the remainder Mourvèdre… The nose is highly complex with damp earth and guava combined with citrus rind accents. The palate is brilliantly textured with a nice sense of weight. Well-balanced, don’t serve this too cold to take in the outstanding flavor and aromatic range.” – Owen Bargreen, 92 PTS.

“This vintage of rosé has the perfect rose gold color! The nose has hints of so many fruits, almost fruit salad or Starburst. The wine shows excellent balance and freshness, with citrus acidity and a candy finish that will go great with whatever your summertime activities may be.” – EFESTĒ Winemaker Mark Fioré.

Food Pairings

  • Enjoy with a fresh shrimp ceviche or a classic Niçoise salad. The wine’s crisp acidity complements the citrusy, tangy flavors of these dishes, making it perfect for a light and refreshing beach meal.
  • BBQ—Pair with grilled chicken skewers and a side of tabbouleh. The rosé’s fruit-forward profile balances the savory, grilled flavors, making it an ideal choice for a casual patio dinner.
  • The wine pairs wonderfully with various cheeses, cured meats, and fresh fruits. Think soft brie, prosciutto, and ripe strawberries. Its balanced acidity and fruity notes enhance the flavors.
